Width is measured across the garment laid flat, armhole to armhole. A 40 inch chest measures 20 inches across, so compare half your chest measurement to the Width column.
The easiest check: measure a tank or tee you already own and like, then match it to the chart.
To measure yourself: run the tape around the fullest part of your chest, keeping it level, then halve that number.
Measurements can vary by up to two inches on any given tank.
